Polymer Chemistry: The main objective is to synthesize novel inorganic-organic composites (IOCs)

MS thesis title:
The cross-linking polymers of PVA-urea, PVA-thiourea and PVA-benzamide have been synthesized by the condensation reaction of PVA and functional groups of urea, thiourea and benzamide. The polymeric products were characterized by FTIR, UV- Visible spectroscopy and refractive index measurements. Both FTIR and UV-Visible measurement confirmed the formation of cross-linking polymers. UV-Visible spectra show good optical transparency of synthesized polymers. The refractive index measurements also confirmed the optical transparency of the polymeric products.

Responsible for the conduct of laboratory based reserach, developing skills in synthetic chemistry and characterisation using a range of NMR, electronic and vibrational spectroscopies, mass spectrometry and single crystal X-ray crystallography. Detailed reporting to the senior invesitgator and discussion of results, demonstrating considerable indpendence in data analysis, interpretation, literature surveys and experiment design.
