Established in 2011, the Department of Sociology was among the inaugural six departments of the university. Its academic programs commenced on January 24, 2012. The department offers BSS Honors in sociology and MSS in sociology. The department is committed to providing a comprehensive and critical understanding of social structures, human behavior, and contemporary societal issues. Its curriculum is designed to equip students with a strong foundation in classical and modern sociological theories, as well as rigorous training in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. A key focus is on applying sociological knowledge to the specific social, cultural, and developmental contexts of Bangladesh, with particular attention to the unique characteristics of the Barishal division and the greater delta region.
